VIII Oulunsalo Music Festival 30.July - 6.August 2005

Oulunsalo Soi Music Festival next summer will be the 8th in order. The artistic leader Izumi Tateno
has gathered a festival program of 23 concerts altogether. Among the best-known artists of the
summer 2005 are baritone Jorma Hynninen together with pianist Ilmari Raikkonen. Their concert
will take place on Monday 1.August at the Oulunsalo Hall. We will hear a.o. Schumannfs
Dichterliebe.

The artist of the year of Oulunsalo Soi Music Festival is La Tempesta Chamber Orchestra. They
will perform in the opening concert of the festival on Saturday 30.July. The orchestra was
established in 1997 and consists of young talented musicians. There are 20-30 musicians in the
orchestra. La Tempesta  has been the festival orchestra of Oulunsalo Soi ever since the first festival
of 1998. We will also hear Petri Kumela play the guitar in the opening concert. The second concert
of the opening day will be at  
Vilho Lampi Museum in Liminka. Miklos Spanyi plays clavichord
solos in the idyllic surroundings of the museum.

Sunday 31.July will offer four concerts. The artist couple Aulikki Eerola (soprano) and Pertti Eerola
(organ) will perform in Hailuoto church.
Members of the Eusia Quartet play romantic pieces at
Terttu Jurvakainen Museum in Muhos.
The artistic leader of the festival, Izumi Tateno, plays the
piano in his own solo concert at the Oulunsalo Hall on Sunday. Composers Takacs, Skrjabin,
Yoshimatsu and Nordgren. La Tempesta Baroque Ensemble will be the last to perform on Sunday, a
sunset concert at the Liminganlahti Nature Centre.

On Monday 1.August there is a coffee concert in the Oulunsalo Municipal Hall. Members of the
Eusia Quartet will perform.
The 18.00 concert at the Oulunsalo Hall, performers Jorma Hynninen
and Ilmari Raikkonen, has awaken a lot of interest in advance. Later on Monday evening there is a
concert by La Tempesta Chamber Orchestra, at 21.00 in Lumijoki church.

The Artist of the Year, La Tempesta Orchestra will give their festival concert on Tuesday 2.August,
conducted by the young Japanese conductor Ms.Yuri Nitta. Compositions by Madetoja, Elgar,
Sibelius, Takemitsu and Nielsen form the program of the evening. The festival concert begins at
19.00 at the Oulunsalo Hall.
The evening will be concluded by gA little night concerth, performers
are pianist Juho Alakarppa and the artist couple Aulikki and Pertti Eerola.

The Eusia Quartet and Izumi Tateno play music from Wolf, Grieg and Korngold in their concert at
the Oulunsalo Hall on Wednesday 3.August.
Aulikki and Pertti Eerola perform at

School on Wednesday. One of the main interests of Wednesday is a concert
dedicated to the music of the Composer of the Year Toru Takemitsu (1930-1996), at 21.30 at the
Oulunsalo Hall.

The concert of La Tempesta on Thursday 4.August in Oulu Cathedral will mark the 400th
anniversary of the city of
Oulu. The program includes the String Quartet composed by Tulindberg
who lived in
Oulu for some time and Stabat Mater by the second Composer of the Year Luigi
Boccherini (1743-1805). Stabat Mater will be performed by La Tempesta Chamber Orchestra
conducted by Jani Siven, soprano soloist  Tuuli Lindeberg. Late on Thursday gThe night of the
virtuosih concert offers works from Paganini performed by violinist Kazuhiro Takagi
and pianist
Liisa Pohjola and Miklos Spanyi.

On Friday 5.August there are two concerts for children in the program. A Brass Quartet with
percussion set up from the Oulu Parishesf Viventi Orchestra play familiar childrenfs songs. The
players represent the really high class brass music of
Oulu region. The interesting ensemble creates  
new extraordinary interpretations. In the traditional Marathon Concert on Friday night we will hear
surprising pieces played by the artists of this year. Friday will also see a concert in the Old church
in Kempele, Canadian tenor Colin Balzer and guitarist Petri Kumela perform.
Friday speciality will
be the Argentine Milonga Dinner in Radisson SAS Hotel. The performing group Tangueros Polares
con Leo Vervelde became very popular during last summerfs festival.

On the last day of the festival, Saturday 6.August we will hear a concert given by Liisa Pohjolafs
master course attendants in the Tulindberg Hall of the Oulu Music Centre. The actual Concert finale
in Oulunsalo church offers music from both Composers of the Year, Boccherini and Takemitsu.

The festival office and main concert hall of Oulunsalo Soi is at the Oulunsalo Hall. Oulunsalo Soi
festival will take part in the opening ceremony of the new library in the shopping and service centre
gOulunsalon Kapteenih(under construction). The opening ceremony will be on Tuesday 2.August.
Among other events connected with the music festival is Liisa Pohjolafs master course on piano.
The course is arranged in collaboration with Oulu Konservatorio and Oulun Seudun
Ammattikorkeakoulu.

The graphic art of Oulunsalo Soi Music Festival is based on artist Jaana Suorsafs painting gFlutisth.

Glass artist Mary Jane Gregory has an art exhibition at the Oulunsalo Hall during the festival.

Oulunsalo Soi has become established as a music festival of the entire Oulu region.We expect 3500
visitors in summer 2005. Oulunsalo Soi belongs to the gFinland Festivalsh chain of events. The

municipality
of Oulunsalo is the producer of the event. Pianist Izumi Tateno is the artistic director
and Ms.Heli Heikkila is the coordinator and manager of the festival.
